Coupon Stacking: A Beginner's Guide to Doubling Your Savings
Coupon stacking sounds advanced, but the idea is simple: layer more than one discount on a single item.
What stacking actually means
Stacking is applying two or more discounts to one purchase — usually a manufacturer coupon plus a store coupon, ideally while the item is on sale.
The three layers
- Manufacturer coupon — issued by the brand, accepted at most retailers.
- Store coupon — issued by the retailer, often stackable with a manufacturer offer.
- Store sale — the base price drop that makes everything bigger.
A simple example
Say a shampoo is on sale for $1 off. Add a $2 manufacturer coupon and a $0.50 store coupon, and you've turned a small saving into a meaningful one — on the same bottle.
Know the rules
Every retailer sets its own stacking policy. Read it once, keep it in mind, and you'll quickly learn which stores reward careful shoppers most.
